The revised 9758 H2 Mathematics syllabus introduces slight changes compared to the previous version, particularly in two chapters: Complex Numbers and Sequences and Series.
1. Complex Numbers
The updated syllabus places greater emphasis on:
- Sketching and interpreting Argand diagrams
- Understanding transformations between complex numbers in Cartesian form
Notably, complex numbers in trigonometric and exponential forms are no longer included in the syllabus.
2. Sequences and Series
- Recurrence relations are now part of the syllabus
- The method of differences has been removed
Use of MF 27 Formula List
The revised syllabus uses the MF 27 Formula List instead of the previous MF 26.
What this means for Students
If you’re taking the revised syllabus, there’s no need to worry. However, when practicing with past-year papers (e.g., Ten-Year Series, and prelim papers from previous years), keep the following in mind:
- Skip questions involving the method of differences
- Skip questions on complex numbers in trigonometric or exponential form.
To get more practice on the new content areas,
To get familiar with the revised content, especially recurrence relations and the updated approach to complex numbers, I recommend:
- Practicing more 2024 and beyond JC1 papers
- Working on 2025 JC2 prelim papers as they become available
These will provide more relevant practice aligned with the new syllabus requirements.
