In this lesson, we will look at conversion of units for speed.
Before that, let’s first look at the unit conversion for distance and time.
Units conversion for distance
1 km = 1000 m
1 m = 100 cm
1 cm = 10 mm
Units conversion for time
1 hour = 60 min = 3600 s
1 min = 60 s
Units conversion for speed
To a unit conversion for speed, you can think of per unit time as 1 unit time. For example, to convert 60 m/s to km/min, we
write 60 m/ s as \( \frac{60 m}{1 s} \).
Then we will convert the m and the s to whatever units we want to convert to. So since the question asks us to convert 60 m/s to km/min, then we will write \( \frac{60 m}{1 s} \) = \( \frac{0.06 km}{\frac{1}{60} min} \).
Finally, we will evaluate the result. Hence we write 60 m/ s = \( \frac{0.06}{\frac{1}{60}} \) = 3.6 km/min
Example 1: Convert 60 km/h to m/min.

Example 2: Convert 3 m/s to km/h
